Its presently early September 2016 and I have decided to write a short
Review of my Blog and present the reader with an Update of the story.
Firstly, on August 11th 2016 I was invited to spend a few hours with the
Klaatu member Terry Draper at Coogee Beach, Sydney, Australia. We shared the
afternoon sun ; a few beers and good conversation discussing musical
inspirations; klaatu recordings; my Blog;
future plans and personal histories and tribulations.
I explaned to Terry that in my Blogg I simply wanted to tell My Story which
centred around 6 years of research between 1976 - 1982 into the rumour that
"Klaatu were The Beatles". This tome was originally titled "
Under an assumed name" ( The Beatles/Klaatu Conspiracy) . The title was
changed when I commenced my Blog and became "The greatest story never
told". During my 6 years of research many strange, unexplainable events took
place and still remain a mystery today; in fact; many questions put forward
still remain unanswered.
As I wrote my Blogg, I realized how easy it is for one to "build a
conspiratory of sorts" and keep a myth alive. It simply involved
uncovering a number of relevant pieces of data or evidence and assembling all
the jigsaw pieces together to form a complete picture.
Co-incidences and
circumstantial evidence help create a variety of possible conclusions , which
are the ingredients of a good Conspiracy story.
I spent literally thousands of hours listening to each Klaatu album and
comparing these recordings with the recordings of The Beatles. I studied every
musical arrangement and production and every lyric line. The similarities and
co-incidences were everywhere which were overwhelming and clearly began to
suggest that there may be some truth to the rumour that Klaatu were The
Beatles.
I remember that in 1981 I did recieve a phone call from Terry and I told
him that if he ever came to Sydney to look me up and we can get toether for a
chat over a few beers. Well, 35 years later, Terry did visit Sydney and we
finally did get the opportunity to meet and chat over a few beers at Coogee
Beach.
Terry gave me 3 of his solo albums/cds being "Stranded",
"When the world was young" and "Searching" and I gave him 3
cds featuring songs by Australian artists of the 60's/ 70's whom I had shared
Concert Billings with during the same period.
I have now listened to all 3 albums and I am in awe of his talent and
songwriting; Im a big fan and admirer of the man I met on Coogee Beach. A
master musician; songwriter; composer; arranger and producer; a rare talent
indeed.
We parted that afternoon by agreeing to stay in contact and Terry said that
he may be back or move here permanently soon due to family reasons. We may end
up being neighbours?
My conclusions after our meetings are that "Klaatu may not be The
Beatles" and its the musical song quality of all the Klaatu recordings
that matter. Klaatu had a message to bring to mankind and its not the messanger
thats important.
Klaatu helped mankind evolve into a Cosmic Conscious species and told us
that we should all learn to live in peace.
Before we take a Review of the songs featured on Side Two of
the album, I thought that perhaps we should take a look at the ARTWORK
featured on the Front and Back jacket of Klaatu's 5th and final
album. " Will the Artwork reveal dozens of new Beatle connections and
present us with many more strange co-incidences?".
Firstly, the artwork is the creation of the Canadian artist " Ted
Jones" whom is responsible for the Artwork found on most of the
Klaatu album jackets. Jones was once an Art student at The Vanier Collegiate
in Toronto and whom for a number of years has been earning a living in the
Graphics industry in Toronto. He
created the covers for most of the Klaatu albums and in 2016 appears to have
" vanished into obscurity".
( Recent research on Ted Jones in 2016 wasn't fruitfull, though I did
uncover a pic of Ringo Starr with an individual resembling Ted Jones. Why Ringo
should know Ted Jones is anyones guess but I find it very suspicious that they
should know each other). Perhaps in 2016
Ted Jones is no longer a Artist and simply chose to have a " low internet
profile?; hence my empty basket.
In the Winter 1981 issue of "The Morning Sun" we
find the following pic of "Ted Jones" with his creation
"The Sun Godess". The "Sun Godess" originates
from an ancient Indian religion and culture.
The Cobra God, Sun God and Monkey God are seen portrayed in the
Eastern inspired masterpiece.
Compare the above "Jones"
pic to the below one found in George Harrison's book" I, Me,
Mine" of the Indian guru "Sri Ganeshava Namah".
"Could it just be another co-incidence that both pieces of artwork
are of an " Indian Godess or Guru" and that the Diety
figures both have numerous arms protruding from their bodies; that
" the Sun" is featured behind both their heads; and that both
feature drawings of a "mouse/ mouse like creatures?" . "Could
these similarities in both pieces of Artwork be the result of being created by
the "same Artist" being " Ted Jones"?
More on the Artwork and Ted Jones later, but now I would like to Present a
breakdown of the meaning behind the title of the album through " words
and colour".
The word " Magentalane" is a combination of the two
words "Magenta" and "Lane";
with "Magenta" referring to " a brilliant
blue-red colour derived from coal tar" and the word "lane
" referring to " a narrow thouroughway or road".
The word "lane" could be interpretated as a reference to The
Beatles song " Penny Lane" released as a Single way back in
1967 with the b-side being "Strawberry Fields forever". With the dictionary description of the word
"lane" as referring to a "road"
then perhaps this could be a reference to The Beatles album " Abbey
Road"?
Acoording to the 4th issue of Klaatu's newsletter "The
Morning Sun" the word "Magentalane" " is
a simple allegory symbolizing in words and music the groups return to their
original musical roots so prominently displayed in their earlier Klaatu albums.
Having come through several periods of change, both musically and other wise,
Klaatu has finally returned home".
In the Summer 1981 issue of "The Morning Sun"
Mr Frank Davies claims that; "Magentalane was recorded and produced by
Klaatu at a studio co-built by the band outside Toronto. It is housed in a
beautifil antique barn and has been jokingly nicknamed " SHABBY ROAD".
The word "Magenta" symbolizes the " colour of the
lettering and artwork" featured on the Front and Back covers of the
"Magentalane" album. "Could it just be a co-incidence that
the Front and Back covers of the Paul McCartney album " Tug
of War " feature combinations of the " colours blue +
red" which compose the colour "Magenta?".
Both albums were written and recorded during 1981 with Magentalane
released in late 81 and "Tug of War " released early
82.
One of the last live performances given by the late, great John Lennon,
John is seen singing " Imagine" whilst wearing a "
MAGENTA JUMPSUIT", whilst his backing band BOMF are observed
wearing " two faces".
Imagine
The number of co-incidences are certainly building an enermous,
overshadowing tower of a conspiracy. The evidence needs no mouthpiece, for it
speaks for itself and stands alone in its truth.
The individual items featured on the Front cover of "Magentalane"
album consists of the following;
An anti-gravity ship with
Wings and sails
A rainbow.
Magnetic mooring blocks
A pink ocean
an array of strange plant
species.
a MOUSE
" Could the ship with Wings be a reference to "Paul McCarney
and Wings?"
In the video clip for McCartneys song " Tug of War"
Paul can be seen inside George Martins secluded studio located on the island of
Montserrat playing an "acoustic guitar "which has an " identical
magenta coloured Wing "
painted on the front of the guitar.
Tug of war
I believe this video was shot
sometime during late 1981 in Montserrat and also features " scenes of
futuristic city with anti-gravity spaceships flying above the city skyline".
Meanwhile in the McCartney song : " Morse Moose and Grey
Goose" we find the lyrics; " The grey goose was a steady boat/
people said she'd never float. One night when the moon was high/ the grey goose
flew away" which connects very strongly to the " anti-gravity
ship with Wings" seen on the front cover of the "Magentalane"
album.
In the 30 minute promo film of the Wings " Back to the Egg"
album the band members are seen inside a " anti-gravity
spaceship" and "travelling away from Earth". The album
cover features a pic of "Wings inside their " interplanetary craft
travelling out into the universe".
Back to the egg.
The fact that Paul called his 2nd
band WINGS suggests that he has a love of flying and travelling through
the great blue yonder.
Pauls interest in Space and Aliens has been found expressed
in many of his recordings and the reader should do a little of their own
research here. He had his own "alien encounters" just like John did. Take a listen to the start of his following song;
Talk more talk.
In the Harrison song " Save the world" off his "Somewhere
in England" album we find some very relevant and interesting lyric
lines which read; " to end on a happy note, like trying to make
concrete float. Its very simple knowing that,
God in your heart lives". These lines directly relate to "
anti-gravity" and the " anti-gravity spaceship" seen
on the Klaatu cover
Save the world
. In the Klaatu song "Maybe I'll move to Mars"
we hear them singing " we have built a ship that floats on
anti-gravity".
Somewhere in England
Whilst editing this
blogg, I realized that the above pic of
George features a very " shabby road" indeed. "Is it
the "real painting " by Mark Boyles titled " Holland Park
Avenue study" made in England
in 1967 or " is it a picture of
George laying down on a road somewhere in England?". The album cover
was changed later and my re-mixed 2004 cd copy features a profile pic of George
on the front cover overlayed with an "airial pic of England from Space"
and the back cover features a similiar " airial pic of England taken
from Space".
Cosmic concepts and space and time themes saturate the artwork and music of both Klaatu
and Harrison, McCartney, Lennon and Starr, one only has to "open ones eyes
and ears" to discover this fact. The Beatles 1st ep stated that "they
would be the first band to have a Fan Club on the Moon"; yeah check it
out, this was in 1963
Both the Harrison song "Save the world" and the Klaatu song "Maybe I'll move to Mars" were recorded during the same
period, being 1981 and released late the same year. "Could it be a
co-incidence that both parties should sit down and write and record songs that
feature references to " anti-gravity" and " leaving
Earth".?"
In the song " Las Brisas" off Ringo's 1976 album " Rotogravure"
we find the following lyrics which make references to "a ship with
Wings", with the lyrics reading: "We'll take a sailing
ship into the night/ a sea without horizons on a starless night. Olas Brisas
means the breeze, will carry us like two birds in flight".
On the John Lennon album " Double Fantasy" we find
the song " Starting Over" where we hear John sing; "Its
time to spread our Wings and fly, dont let another day go by" and
" let's take a chance and fly away somewhere alone" and "
why dont we take off alone, fly somewhere far, far away".
Starting Over
All of these Lennon lyrics certainly express the "theme" presented
on the cover of the Magentalane album and with many of the lyrics
found within the songs on the album.
In another Lennon song; "Bless You" off the "Walls
and Bridges" album John can be heard singing " now that we
have spread our Wings".
In the Yoko Ono song " Dream Love" off her 1982 " Its
Alright" album we find the lyrics; " In dreams you can
spread your Wings and know where to turn" whilst in her song " Toyboat"
off her 1981 "Seasons of Glass" album Yoko sings;
" Im waiting for a boat to help me out of here".
There's bound to be dozens of other links connecting the "Magentalane
anti-gravity spaceship" with the work of the four ex-Beatles that
Ive failed to uncover or have simply failed to notice and perhaps some of these
may come to light sometime in the future.
The RAINBOW seen on
the Front cover of the "Magentalane" album contains
numerous connections with the 4 ex-Beatle members and many of these
links will be featured during my Review of their song " At the
end of the rainbow". I thought that I'd just note a few of these here.
"The Rainbow" was the name for the group John,
Paul and George formed in 1958. They used the name for a short time when
they had discared the name The Quarrymen after John no longer
attended Quarry Bank High School.
A "Rainbow" can be seen featured on the cover of
George Harrison's "Gone Troppo" and on The Beatles
"Magical Mystery Tour" album jacket.
A "Rainbow" can
also be found on the John Lennon's "Mind
Games" album
and a " Rainbow" can be found on the inner sleeve
of the "McCartney 11" album.
The below pic of the
McCartney 45rpm Single "This One" released in 1989 not only features a "
rainbow" but also includes a very Krisna looking Indian
diety. The illustrator is Sni Muk Fej.
Remember, Ted
Jones painting ealier depicting an "Indian Goddess"
and "George Harrison's" connections with Indian and his "Hindu
beliefs".
(3)" Magnetic Mooring docks"
These strange looking objects appear to be what I believe are "Magnetic
Mooring Docks" that help keep " the anti-gravity
spaceship moored to the ground". They are remarkably "identical"
to the strange objects seen on the cover of Harrison's "Gone
Troppo". The album features a photo containing " half ocean and half sky" and on
the horizon of the ocean we find a strange " ramp-like structure"
which is " identical in shape" to the "Magnetic
mooring docks" observed on the cover of the " Magentalane"
album.
Harrison's "Gone Troppo" also features a drawing or
two of an almost "identical" "Mona-lisa Sun"
to that found on all the 5 covers of
Klaatu albums. This " almost identical" SUN can
be clearly seen on " the sails of the Ship with Wings" on the
Front Cover of the "Magentalane" album.
"Could it be that all of the 4 ex-Beatles were well aware of the
rumour " Could Klaatu be The Beatles?" and decided to " go along
with the prank and deliberately planted links back to Klaatu on their own
albums?".
This possibility creates a whole new angle to the entire Beatles/Klaatu
Conspiracy and is certainly worthy of further consideration and investigation.
Again, I would like to state; " that there's bound to be dozens of
other links that Ive failed to uncover or has been lost in the volumes of data
emassed during my research."
(4) " PINK/ Magenta Ocean"
The colour could suggest that Klaatu have landed on "another planet",
perhaps "Mars". Remember on their preivious album
"Endangered Species" the " spacecraft"
can be seen " airborne" and hovering above a "
green lush landscape." This
could suggest that on Earth Klaatu had become an "Endangered
Species" and on the cover of their 5th album they are seen " arriving
back home" in Magentalane.
Perhaps Magentalane is a suburb of Otnorot, Mars? A
martian landscape would appear more realistic when we consider that the
album features a song called " Maybe I'll move to Mars".
Back in the 80's, all those years ago, Paul McCartney and Wings released
an album callled "Venus and Mars" and the title was
chosen to reveal Paul and Linda's Astrological sign and planet. Paul
is governed by the planet Mars and Linda by Venus.
If one checks out the inner sleeve of this album they will see the members
of Wings standing in a desert landscape similar to the landscape of
"Magentalane".
(5) "Strange alien plantlife".
In the last Chapter we discovered that with expert advise the
" plant and aquatic lifeforms" were "fantasy and
not of this Earth" and the same
appears with the "plant life " thats on the "Magentalane"
album.
Strangely, most of the Klaatu album
covers depict " alien lifeforms and plantlife" and
could suggest that the artist Ted Jones has a keen interest in botany
and biology.
It has also been noted in the Blogg on "Endangered Species"
that " all 4 ex-Beatles have expressed a keen interest in
plants and gardening".
There could also exist the possibility that maybe one of the ex-Beatles
created the Artwork for all the Klaatu albums, after all we must
remember that before The Beatles became a feesable working band, Harrison,
Lennon and McCartney spent most of their daylight hours attending an Arts
College in Liverpool studying for their Arts Diploma.
Individuals who have been lucky to visit Pauls home in St Johns Wood, London
claim that if Paul hadnt become a successful musician he could have
become a successful "painter" artist.
During his 5 years of retirement 75-80 John Lennon claimed that he
spent " quite deal of time painting a wide variety of subjects and
found the process quite fullfilling".
Although I know little of Harrison's artistic creations, we do know
of his "botanical interests" as expressed in his tome
" I, Me, Mine" where we find George declare;
" I like to spend as much time as possible potting around the
grounds of Friars Park". He also dedicates the book " to
gardeners everywhere".
George also tells us; " I'm
really quite simple, I don't want to be in the Music Business full-time because
I'm a Gardener. I plant flowers and watch them grow" and elsewhere in
the book, he states; " I failed everything in school except
Art".
With Harrison's knowledge on exotic plant species and his artiistic
capabilities I am urged to ask the question; " Could Harrison be the
creator of the Artwork featured on both the "Endangered Species" and
"Magentalane" albums?".
(6) The Mouse connection.
A "Mouse" can be found on all the Klaatu album
covers and this includes "Magentalane". According to Klaatu
they detected a "loud squeak" whilst listening to a playback
of their song "Little Neutrino" and when Ted Jones arrived
with the proposed Front Cover of their debut album, they discovered that it
contained a painting of a "Mouse". The creature was then
adopted as their Mascot.
According to the Winter issue 1981 of "The Morning Sun",
during the recording of their 2nd album "Hope" at Abbey
Road studios " a member of the London Symphony Orchestra reported
SEEING A MOUSE in the studios".
( I remember during my researching of my book speaking with a member of the
LSO whom claimed that during the recording of Klaatu's 2nd album "Hope";
recorded at Abbey Road during 1977 they were all "sworn to secrecy"
as to whom the band was.)
With a great deal of furroring Ive managed to uncover quite a number of
connections between Klaatu's "Mouse" mascot and the Fab
Four.
(1) The Beatles animated film "Yellow Submarine"
features a " little mouse-like creature" refered to as "Mr
Nowhere Man".
(2) On the back jacket of The Beatles 1980 compilation album "Beatles
Ballads" the reader can find a drawing of an " identical
mouse creature" to those found on Klaatu albums.
(3) In 1972, Paul McCartney made a film called " The
Bruce McMouse Show" , which consisted of footage from 1972 of
Wings Touring the USA and animated footage. The film was intended for
Television release but never saw the light of day.
(4) In December 1977 Ringo Starr released a childrens album titled
" Scouse the Mouse". The album is the "Soundtrack"
to the film starring Ringo Star. ( There gonna make a big Star out of
me and all i gotta do is Act Naturally).
(5) In the Harrison book " I, Me, Mine" can be
found a picture of " Sri Ganeshaya Namah " and just
under his right foot one can find an "identical looking mouse".
"Isn't it
strange how all these strange links/co-incidence continue to surface and
especially on Klaatu's swansong album Magentalane?". In fact, the direct links to The Beatles and
the work of Harrison, McCartney, Lennon and Starr are stronger and undeniable,
which I find amazing.
(6) In the Lennon song " Clean up Time" off the "Double
Fantasy" album we hear John tell us " No Rats aboard our
magic ship of perfect harmony". Rats/ mouse-like creatures can be seen
" aboard Klaatu's magic ship".
Surely the fact that Lennon not only makes a reference to a
"Rat/mouse" on his "Double Fantasy"
album but also it relates to the "Rats aboard the Magentalane ship" which surely must be interpretated as more
than purely co-incidental??
The Back Cover of the Magentalane album appears to be
"devoid" of any Beatle links and I shall leave it to
the reader to discover if there are any.
" SONGS ON SIDE TWO ".
When analysing the lyrics of a song one needs to keep a lookout for "
habitual wording", for every writer has the habit of "
re-using or repeating" certain literary phrases in their works.
Certain Songwriters tend to repeat a lot of " slang words"
and often write songs around similiar themes.
" Magentalane "
.
For example, the Klaatu
song begins with " My, my, what a loverly day" which is
remarbably similar to the McCartney lyric line " With the
reciepe for a loverly day" from his song " Ballroom Dancing"
off his "Tug of War" album , with the emphises being on
the words " a loverly day".
Klaatu then sing; " Aye, Aye, bring out best
champagne" is similiar to some of the language/ wording found in the Lennon
song " Give Ireland back to the Irish" from his "Somewhere
in New York City" album where John sings; " As the
barstards commit genocide, AYE, AYE, genocide". The key words are
" aye, aye" which are frequently used in songs written
about " being at sea/ sailing and pirates". Many songs
written by Harrison, Lennon and McCartney have been written around the
theme of " being at sea/ sailing and pirates".
Klaatu continue with the lyric; " Where the Sea
of Pink champagne flows" contains a similarity to the McCartney lyric
" What do I do with a Sea of Blue" from his song "Ballroom
Dancing" off his "Tug of War" album.
References to the subject of "Seas" can be found a
number of times in The Beatles animated film "Yellow
Submarine" which features " The Sea of Holes",
"The Sea of Blue" and "The Sea of Monsters".
In fact, on nearly all of the Solo albums by all four ex-Beatles one can
find a song on each album that " identifies with being a sea; sailing
the blue".
Klaatu sing; " The road to Liberty awaits us on
the aerodrome incline, gonna leave that bad old world behind" whilst
in the McCartney song " So glad to see you here" off
his "Back to the Egg" album we hear Paul sing" As
Im standing on the runway". In his song " We're open tonight"
off the same album Paul can be heard singing; " Spend the night
in an aircraft hanger".
When Paul formed his 2nd band Wings, their rehearsal
were held in an " old aircraft hanger", which contained
" half a spitfire; a village street and a German U-boat",
"Could the reference to the word "Liberty" be
interpretated as a reference to "The Statue of Liberty" which
is located in the harbour of New York.? It is also the abode of "John Lennon".
Some of these links may appear " weak in substance" but
they are still "known facts" and worth considering if
we are going to get to the bottom of this whole conspiracy.
Klaatu then sing; "Well shouldnt I make a
speech or say something in Greek" could be taken as a reference to the
whereabouts of George Harrison during the early 1980. On the last page of his book; "
I, Me, Mine" one can find the statement; " George
Harrison Somewhere in Greece".The book was published in July 1980
and sold for $300 a copy.
The Klaatu song could have been written during Harrison's stay in Greece
during early 1980 or soon after and made ready for the "Magentalane"
recording sessions in early 1981?
To further the Harrison connection, on his 1982 " Gone Troppo"
album can be found an instrumental piece titled; " Greece",
which may have been written during his holiday in Greece during Jan- June
1980.
" Could it just be another strange co-incidence that Klaatu should
make a reference to " speeking Greek" in their song "Magentalane"
which was recorded sometime during early 1981 and Harrison's 1980 Greek
holiday and the feature of a instrumental song titled " Greece"
on his 1982 "Gone Troppo" album.?"
As I sit here writing this I am blown away by the huge amount of " co-incidences"
I had forgotten about over the years until I came to sitting down and
re-reading the 100s of pages of information i had emassed in my original
manuscript which was completed in 1984. This complete Blogg will only "
feature around 40% of my original findings". Perhaps the full
completed work will " never see the light of day" and
that's why it is so important for me to " get out Part of my Story"
in Blogg form. Since completing my
original manuscript " Under an assumed name" in 84 much
" new information" has come to light which still leaves one
questioning " the real identities of the Klaatu members".
Returning to the Klaatu song " Magentalane" we find the
lyrics; " Perhaps recite a Browning Poem" which
strangely makes a reference to the 19th Century " English Poets
Elizabeth and Robert Browning".
Robert Browning= 1812 - 1889
Elizabeth Barret Browning = 1806 - 1861. ( rated 2nd
in reputation to Tennyson)
" Why would Klaatu chose to write and sing about " two English
Poets" and not write about a homegrown "Canadian Poet/Poets"?.
It is totally " beyond co-incidental" that on the
inner sleeve of John and Yoko's 1982 "Milk and Honey"
can be found the following statement;
" One early morning in the SUMMER of 1980 I woke up with "let
me count the ways" ringing in my head. I called John who was then in
Bermuda and played it over the phone. "How do you like it?" "I
really like it, its beautiful". "How about you writing one with a Robert
Browning line and we'll have portraits of us as Elizabeth and Robert on
the cover?". "John and I always thought that maybe we were the "
re-incarnations" of Robert and Liz".
John and Yoko did have those Portraits
done portraying "Elizabeth
and Robert Browning" and feature on the inner "liner notes"
found on their "Milk and Honey" album. These "liner
notes" are dated " 9th Oct 1983".
Remember that the Klaatu song was probably written sometime between "1980-1981"
which totally co-incides with the 1980 "recordings of the John and
Yoko's songs "Grow old with me" and "Let me count the
ways" based on Poems by Elizabeth and Robert Browning".
Yoko continues in the liner notes of "Milk and Honey"
with; " December 25, 1980 I discovered a Christmas present from John ,
it was a Portrait and an original handwriting of Elizabeth Browning".
Of course, this is all "purely co-incidental" and
3 Canadian musicians surely could not been aware of John and Yoko's fantasy
of being the re-incarnations of the English Poets or
their intentions to record songs based on their poems?
Klaatu continue with the lyric; " Yes, there were times, several
times I was sure we'd been defeated./ As our Hopes became depleted through the
years, but now we are here" are similiar in theme to the lyrics found
in Harrison's song " all those years ago" which looks
back at the Hopes held by Lennon.
In the book; " Strawberry
Fields Forever" by Vic Garbarine Lennon states; " What
we got to do is keep HOPE alive, because without it we'll sink".
During the mid 70s Lennon had almost " lost hope" over US
Immigration legal hassles and being spied on by the US Government. His
associations with a number of Political Activists didnt help and perhaps
even "Tricky Nicky" viewed Lennon as a Political and
Social threat. This period in Lennons life was tough and it wasnt until he
got his Green Card on 9th Oct 75 and on the same day his 1st Son
"Sean" to Yoko was born that Lennon began to have "Hope
for the Future".
Lennon then became a recluse holed up in the Dakota Apartments playing
"Househusband" whilst Yoko went about "looking after
business and investments". For nearly 5 years Lennon raised his 2nd
son "Sean", spending time "baking bread"
"painting" and "reading books on Philosophy, History,
Psychology, Ancient Civilizations and Botanical sciences" He made a
number of "trips abroad to England, Switzerland, Japan, Africa and
Canada" and spent a bit of time " sailing around the
Carribean/ Burmuda Islands" on a privately hired yacht.
The final Klaatu lyric reads; " It feels so good, it feels so good
to be back at home" are identical to the sentiments expressed in the
Lennon song " Intuition" where we find the lyric " Its
good to be alive". On May
27th 1979 Newspapers around the world published a " Love
letter from John and Yoko" which stated; " We live in a
beautiful universe and we are thankful every day for the plentifulness of our
life. It's going to be alright. The future of the Earth is up to all of
us".
"Perhaps this Klaatu lyric: "it feels so good to be back at
home" could be interpretated as the joy Lennon felt about
returning to the music scene and recording his 1st album for over 5
years?"
Perhaps before you make up your mind on the amazing connections mentioned
so far, let's move on and let me offer a Musical Review of the song "Magentalane".
The song exudes a happy feeling with its lightly textured orchestration and
positive lyrics and frankly makes one feel as good as the band must have felt
recording the tune. Its permeated with the sounds and production concepts that
are unmistakably Klaatu. It features crystal clear acoustic guitar; weaving
synthesizer strings and syn brass arrangements; light tasty bass guitar and
some distinctive snare drum backbeat. The light, joyous texture of the entire
song is very compareable to the McCartney song " Tug of War". In the song Paul sings; " we'll be
dancing to the beat played on a different drum" and the "beat
of military drums" can be clearly heard. The same "military
style drumming can be found in both songs".
If the reader were to listen to both songs side by side they would discover
many musical similarities and that the lead vocals could be Paul's in both
cases. Verse 2 of the song features some very Lennon and McCartney 2 part vocal
harmonies and Verse 4 some very Beatle-ish 3-4 part harmonies.
Many musical similarities can also be found in the Harrison songs "
Mystical One", "Gone Troppo" and "Dream away"
off his 1982 album "Gone Troppo". All of these songs contain "similiar
tempo's; sound mix and production quality; spacing of vocals and vocal
harmonies " found in the song "Magentalane".
Musical similarities can also be found in many of Paul McCartney songs
which include; " Tug of War", "With a little luck",
"London Town", " Girlfriend", "Powercut"
and "Let em in".The sounds of "Military snares/
military style drumming" can be found in the middle of both "
Let em in" and "Tug of War". "Military
drums" are clearly features in the MIDDLE of Klaatu's " Magentalane".
Other musical similarities can be clearly found in 2 other McCartney
songs, being; " Somebody who cares" and "Ebony and
Ivory" from the "Tug of War" album. In fact,
both albums share many musical themes, textures and arrangemts and both feature
1st class production.
I would like to Sum up my Review of the song "Magentalane" with
an article published in the Sydney newspaper The Sun on 18th august
1983 in the "daily Astrology column, which reads;
" You fall into this
catagory if you can resist the temptation to boast about your achievements.
which reminds me of BROWNINGS verse that begins; "I, Myself and
Me had a tea party and we drank all the tea". Harrison is on the record as claiming that
The Beatles had "too much tea"; being a reference to smoking pot.
"Could George Harrison been aware of the above " Browning
quote" and could it have inspired him to write his song "I,
Me, Mine" found on The Beatle''s "Let it Be"
album and also inspire him to title his 1980 autobiography "I, Me, Mine"?
In a number of interviews with Harrison,
George talked about his interest in Literature and Poetry and said he
was interested in Collecting 1st Editions books to add to his
growing collection.
The odds of both Harrison and one of the Klaatu members sharing the love ofPoetry by Robert Browning are surely a million to one. Not only was Harrison a serious Collector
of English Literature and Poetry butJohn Lennon believed that he was the " re-incarnation of
Robert Browning".
The co-incidences are driving me fucking mad, there's just too many and
they continue to point to "The ex-Beatle members being involved with
the recording of the Magentalane album".
"life is surely stranger than fiction" and what I have written so far is FACT. " If there is no fire,
then why is there so much smoke?" Ignoring the reality of the facts
wont change reality and some day soon the "day of truth will
dawn".
" AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW ".
The title of this little rocker contains the title of a Beatle song found
on their " Abbey Road " album, being the song "The
End" and also contains the name the Moptops used back in 1958 when
they performed under the name "The Rainbow".
"Rainbows" can be found on the jackets of albums
released by John Lennon , Paul McCartney
and George Harrison released between 1973 - 1982; which strangely is the same
"time period" that Klaatu were a recording entity.
The first example can be found on the 1973 "Mind
Games" album by John Lennon which features an "almost
identical design" of the 1st pic of the Klaatu members featured
earlier.
My 2nd example can be found on the inner jacket of the "McCartney
11" album released in 1980 and strangely this pic conceals a
"hidden mystery planet" above Pauls head. A friend discover
this when he used an eraser to erase some stains and dicovered a " mystery
reddish planet above Pauls head which is remarkably similair to the " reddish
planet" found on the back cover of Klaatu's 1976 debut album "3.47
EST ". " Perhaps Paul thought featuring a "Klaatuish
planet" on the cover was too obvious and decided to "cover up"
the original design just like Ringo had done way back in 1974 when
he changed the title of his album " Klaatu; Barada Nikto"
to " Goodnight Vienna"?
My 3rd example can be found on the Back cover of George
Harrison's 1982 " Gone Troppo" album and is featured above
a drawing of a cement mixer on the upper right hand side.
Remember that way back in 1976 , Klaatu's manager Frank Davies claimed that
" clues to the real identities of the Klaatu members could be found
within the Artwork on their album jackets; within the song lyrics and musical
arrangements".
"If the KLAATU albums deliberately contained links to The
Beatles and the 4 ex-members as Solo Artists then perhaps it isn't "totally
absurb" to assume that Lennon, McCartney and Harrison also decided
to also "plant hidden clues on their album jackets linking them with
the Artwork featured on the Klaatu albums?".
The mention of "Rainbows" can be found in a number
of songs by Lennon, McCartney , Harrison and Starr and I shall only note a few
here.
In the Lennon song " Luck of the Irish" off his "Sometime
in New York City" album we find the lyric line; " Let's
walk over Rainbows like leprechauns" whilst in the Harrison song
" Blow Away" off his 1979 "George Harrison"
album we can find George singing; " Rainbows appearing, the pressures
were burst".
On Yoko Ono's 1983 "Its Alright" album we
can find a song titled " I see Rainbows" in which we hear Yoko
proclaim " I see Rainbows, I see tomorrow, I see us sending Rainbow
love/ I see Rainbows, I see tomorrow, I see us sending Rainbow
thoughts". Remember Yoko
influenced John and John influenced Yoko; Yin and Yang.
In the song "At the end of the rainbow" we hear Klaatu
sing; " And you need some-one whom cares" which is almost
identical to the McCartney song " Somebody who cares" from his
1982 " Tug of War" album.
In this McCartney song we hear Paul sing; " like some-one has taken
the wheels off your car, when you got somewhere to go./ We'll it's annoying,
not going to get very far I know" which identifies with the Klaatu
lyric " One day when life is taking you nowhere" ; with both
sets of lyrics centring around the theme of " getting nowhere".
In the Harrison song "Hong Kong Blues" off his 1981 "Somewhere
in England" album George can be heard singing " I need
some-one to love me"; which would have been written and recorded
around the same period that the Klaatu tune was.
In the Harrison song " Love comes to everyone" from his
1979 "George Harrison" album we find George singing;
"Something that's never changing/ always a part of something never
ageing" which echoes the same sentiments expressed in the Klaatu
lyrics; " Since you left I felt the changes, you drained away my life
in stages" and " Though history still turns it's pages/ I will
track you through the ages". Both sets of lyrics contain similar
references to " changes/ ages and ageing" and therefore
could suggests that both sets of lyrics were written by the same
individual.?
" Musical comparisons "
Overall I have uncovered dozens of Beatle songs and songs by Lennon,
McCartney and Harrison that share musical similarities with this superb song by
Klaatu.
In the case of McCartney, these
similarities can be found on his songs " Silly love song",
"Again, again and again", " Backwards Traveller",
"With a little luck", "Deliver your children",
"what the man said" and "wine junko" to name
just a few.
In the case of Lennon, check out " Starting Over"
and "Clean up time" off his 1980 "Double Fantasy"
album and Im sure his last album "Milk and Honey" contain
songs with similiar musical arrangements and production.
Many George Harrison songs contain musical similarities and these
include his songs " Love come to everyone", " Not
guilty", "Soft touch", "Blow away",
"Faster" and "If you believe" found on his 1979
"George Harrison" album.
From his 1981 album "Somewhere in England" please
take a listen to the songs " That which I have lost" and
"Save the world", whilst off his 1982 "Gone Troppo"
album take a listen to the songs " Mystical One", "Thats
the way it goes" and "Gone Troppo".
Again the reader should not take my References at " face value"
and should sit down and take a close listen to all songs mentioned and then
make their own judgements.
" MRS TOADS COOKIES".
A song for the kiddies, a muffet musical; reminiscent of McCartneys "frog
chorus" featured in his "We all stand together". It
echoes memories of Beatle songs like "Octopuses Garden",
"Maxwell's silver hammer", "ob, la, di, ob la da", "
Martha my dear" and "Yellow submarine" and "Lady
Madonna".
The song opens with circus style organ sounds similair to that found in the
Beatle songs " For the benefit of Mr Kite" and "We can
work it out".
The middle eight features the " sounds of wishing bells" which can also be found featured at the start
of Lennon's song "Starting over" off his 1980 "Double
Fantasy" album. From the same album, the reader should also take a
close listen to John's song "Beautiful Boy" which begins with
the sound of " wishing bells".
Musical similarities can be found in the Harrison songs " I really
love you", "Dream away" and "Gone Troppo", all off
his 1982 "Gone Troppo" album.
In the case of McCartney, musical similarities can be found in many of his
songs which include " Wonderful Christmas Time", "Montberry
Moon Delight", " Uncle Albert/Admiral Hasley" and "Mary had
a little lamb", just to name a few.
There exists many other musical similarities I could quote here but I
prefer to move on and take a look at
some of the lyrics found in "Mrs Toads Cookies" and their
Beatle connections/links.
Klaatu begin with; " Mrs Toad baked some cookies and Mr Toad had a
Ball" which could be interpretated as a reference to the McCartney
song " After the Ball" off his "Back to the egg"
album. On his "Tug of War" album we can find Paul
singing about "Ballroom Dancing".
These Klaatu lyrics could relate to an "animated film" that McCartney spent making during 1980 called " Rupelt
the Bear" which is said to contain a " section of
animated of a TOADS PICNIC DAY, which certainly couldn't be purely
co-incidental. The reader should watch the video of Paul's "We all
stand together" which features "The Frog Chorus" ; a
Toad picnic and Ballroom scene.
A reference to "frogs and Toads" can also be found on Ringo's
1974 "Goodnight Vienna" where we find the song of the same
title with the lyrics; " green as a Frog, I was back into school".
Meanwhile on the John and Yoko "Double Fantasy"
album released in 1980 we find the song "I'm your Angel" where
we hear Yoko sing to John " And Frogs which turn into Princess's".
Is'nt it so strange that both
Lennon and Klaatu should write and record a song around the same theme or making references to "Frogs and
Toads" and around the same time frame; being 1980-1981.?"
Klaatu continue with the lyric : "Ooh good is good and bad is bad ,
as any Baker knows" which is remarkably similar to the lyric line
" Living with good and bad" from Harrison's song " All
those years ago" off his "Somewhere in England"
album. The "useage" of the word " Baker"
can be found in The Beatles "Penny Lane" whilst
we are enlightened to discover that during Lennon's 5 years in retirement
" he devoted some of this time to the perfection of baking
bread". In the Lennon song
"Clean up time" from his "Double Fantasy"
album we find the connecting lyrics "the King is in the kitchen making
bread and honey".At the time John was the House husband,
staying at home caring for his son Sean and baking and cooking whilst Mother
took care of business.
Klaatu then sing; " Mrs Crow fancied flowers/ she picked them in
fields windblown. But when she'd filled her vases with beautiful flowers, well
there was'nt any left to grow"; which contain numerous connections to
all of the ex-Beatles.
Firstly, in the McCartney song " Take it away" from his
"Tug of War" album we hear Paul singing, " Faded
flowers wilt in a jar" which is almost identical to the above Klaatu
lyric. Meanwhile on the " McCartney 11" album we find
the song "Coming Up" which features the lyric line " Coming
up like a flower" and also features the song "Waterfall"
which contains the lyric " Like a garden needs a flower". ( In 1989 McCartney released an album
titled "Flowers in the dirt". )
In the Lennon song "Mind Games" we can find John singing
" Love is the flower, you gotta let it grow" which certainly
reflects the sentiments expressed in the Klaatu lyrics.
Klaatu continue with the lyric " Ooh good is good and bad is bad as
any gardener knows" could be a reference to Ringo's 1981 album "
Stop and smell the roses" where we hear Ringo sing " Stop
and take the time to buy this album so I can stay at home and plant roses all
day"; which certainly expresses his interest in " gardening".
In the 1968 film "Candy" Ringo Starr plays the role
of "Emmanuel, the Gardener"; yeah, yeah, yeah, it's
just another strange co-incidence, just one of the thousands already noted in
this Blogg. ?
In the front pages of George Harrison's book " I, Me, Mine" published
in 1981 we can find the statement; " Dedicated to Gardeners
everywhere" and on page 45 Harrison states " I'm really
quite simple, I'm a GARDENER, I plant FLOWERS and watch them grow".
On page 68 George declares; " I spend a great deal of my time in the
Gardens of Crackerbox Palace doing GARDENING and writing songs". On
page 70 George goes on to state; " the gardens of Crackerbox Palace
are my 1st real garden".
All of this clearly prooves that Harrison had a serious interest in
"Gardening and exotic/endangered plant life/species."
In an article titled " Paul McCartney looks back"
published in Newsweek on 3 May 82 we can find the interesting statement
by Paul which reads; " Linda and I have always felt that if everyrhing
we owned disappeared tomorrow, we could head on down to Jamacia. They've got
little huts on the beach. I'd be a GARDENER or a CARPENTER".
This statements certainly expresses his keen interest in "Gardening"
and his reference to " being a CARPENTER" could without
a doubt be interpretated as a reference to KLAATU.
In the 1951 science fiction film "The Day the Earth stood still"
the central alien character called "KLAATU" changes
from his spacesuit into a human 3 piece suit so that he can walk amoungst
mankind without being recognised. During his journey he assumes the name "Mr
Carpenter". Strangely as it may seem, but it was the Canadian due
"The Carpenters" whom had a Chart Hit during the late
70s with the Klaatu song " Calling occupants of interplanetary
craft". It is also interesting to note here that the Klaatu member
"John Woloschuk" at one time during the 70's recorded under the name "L.L.
Carpenter".
On the 1974 release of Klaatu's single " Dr Marvello/ California
Jam" on Island Records the composer is credited to a "Chip
Dale"; being another possible pseudomn used by the same "John
Woloschuk". This fact tends to suggest that maybe "John
Woloschuk" is just another ficticious name?.
In the McCartney song "Girlfriends" off the Wings "London
Town" album we encounter Paul singing " Till the flowers
stop agrowing"
The next Klaatu lyric states; " Do you wonder will tomorrow be a
better place, well only time will show./ But if we put our heads into a better
space, then maybe we can make it so" which contains a similair
sentiment expressed in the McCartney song " Tug of War" where
we hear Paul sing; " In years to come they may discover what the air we
breathe and the life we lead are all about". Both have questions about
what "the future will bring for mankind".
Meanwhile in the Lennon song " Only People" off his 1973
" Mind Games" album we find the lyric line "
Make no mistake, it's our future, we'll make it, bake a cake and eat it
too". On the same album John can be heard singing about "
projecting images in Time and Space and bringing the future into the Now".
John and Yoko's Esoteric knowledge and philosophy is clearly evident in most of
their musical works and these same teachings/ beliefs are also evident of many
of the lyrics found in Klaatu songs.
In Lennon's song "Intuition" off the "Mind Games"
album we find the lyric line " As I play the game of life, I try to
make it better each and every day" which expresses the theme of "putting
our heads into a better space".
A similar philosophy can be found in the Harrison lyric line "Not
knowing what each day may bring to you or take each day as it goes on" from
his song " If you believe" off his 1979 "George
Harrison" album.
In the McCartney song " Coming up" off his "McCartney
11" album we witness Paul singing; " You want a better
future, one that everyone can share./ You're not alone, we all could use it.
stick around we're nearly there". Like the Klaatu lyrics, both express
a " concern over the future of the human race and what tomorrow will
bring to us all".
The Klaatu lyric; " But if we put our heads into a better space,
then maybe we can make it so" expresses the same philosophy as the
Lennon lyric " You better free your mind instead" from the
Beatles song "Revolution" off their 1969 "Double
White" album.
In the 1982 book " The
ballad of John and Yoko" published by Rolling Stone publications
John comments on his song "Revolution" by stating; " But
I think it all comes down to changing your head". The belief in the esoteric thought
that " by putting our heads into a better space" we can create a
better future can be found expressed in many songs by Lennon, McCartney and
Harrison. Recently McCartney released a song titled "Hope for the
future" which clearly demonstrates his interest in The future of Mankind
and the need to "put our heads into a better space".
" MAYBE I'll MOVE TO MARS ".
The first reference that comes to mind is the Wings album "Venus
and Mars" which was released during the early 70s and is based on
the fact that Astrologically Paul is governed by the planet Mars and
Linda by the planet Venus; hence "Venus and Mars".
There exists a number of interesting lyric lines within the song that
"centre around travelling to distant worlds or foriegn lands"
that can be found echoed in lyrics by the ex-beatle members.
Klaatu sing; " Told me that he was going away, he's got to live
some other place" are equally reflected in the Lennon lyric " why
don't we take off alone, fly somewhere far far away" from his song
"Starting Over" off his 1980 "Double Fantasy"
album.
Meanwhile on the McCartney song "Ballroom Dancing"
off his "Tug of War" album Paul sings " On a
carpet ride to a foriegn land". References to air or space travel can
also be found in the McCartney song "With a little luck" off
the Wings "London Town" album where we hear him sing
"With a little luck we could set it off , we can send it rocketing
skyward". On the video for McCartney's "Back to the Egg"
the band members are seen boarding a flying saucer and flying off into space"
and maybe on their way to Mars?
The next Klaatu lyric states; " Tomorrow I leave for outerspace"
resembles the theme expressed in the Harrison lyric " and now
they've bombs in outerspace, with laser beams and atomic waste" from
his song "Save the world" off his 1981 "Somewhere
in England" album.
Next Klaatu sing; " me and my friends have planned most properly,
we have built a ship that floats on gravity" which clearly identifies
with the Harrison lyric " let's end on a happy note, like trying
to make concrete float" from his song "Save the World"
off his 1981 "Somewhere in England" album. Both the
Harrison and Klaatu songs were written and recorded during early 1981 and both
discuss the idea of " anti-gravity and anti-gravity space travel".
"Could all of this be purely co-incidental?"
Strangely, I remember that in early 1980 I sent the Klaatu member a copy of
the book "The Cosmic Conspiracy" by Stan Deyo which
contained detailed instructions on " how to build an interplanetary
anti-gravity spaceship". Perhaps this book may have been the
inspiration for this Klaatu song ? Around this time I was an Associated
Member of The Anti-gravity Research Society based in the USA and was
involved in acquiring copies of " patents of anti-gravity devices"
registered with the American Patents Office. "Anti-gravity"
is a realiity and if I had the funds and expertise I'd build an anti-gravity
spaceship and move to Mars.
During the 70s John and Yoko spent some time living in Canada, staying on Ronnie Hawkins farm
located 20 miles from Toronto . They became involved with a
number of odd individuals belonging to a Californian cult called " Harbinger
Springs". They believed that were in contact with supernatural
beings from another planet whom were coming to Earth soon to save the human
race from self destruction. They claimed that they had built an " air
car/ spaceship that is powered by psychic energy and needs no fuel". They
claimed that they would get one ready for the upcoming Toronto Peace
Festival and that John and Yoko could arrive at the festival in
their spaceship.
As expected, the whole senario didn't happen and the story was swept under
the copy; perhaps too X-Files for the time.
The Klaatu lyrics and their reference to " leaving for outerspace"
reminds one of the excellent Lennon song " Across the Universe"
off The Beatles "Let it Be" album. It's cosmic theme is
also reflected in the title of Yoko Ono's album "Approximate Infinite
Universe" and perhaps could also relate to the title of the Wings
album "Off the Ground"?
The subject matters of "Space Travel and Outerspace"
can be found portrayed in dozens of songs by Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and
Starr and reflects their own " personal close encounters with
Aliens and Alien spaceships". These encounters have already been
discussed in this Blogg and these facts can't be denied.
Musically, there are many comparisons to songs by McCartney
including his song "Wunderlust" off his "Tug of
War" album which features an almost "identical brass
arrangement in the middle of both songs". Similiar musical
arrangements and production can be found on his songs "Take it away"
and "Ballroom Dancing" off the same album. Other commparisons
can be found on " Long haired lady" and "Uncle Albert",
"Beware my love", " Time to hide", " Warm and
beautiful" and " the note you never wrote" to name just a
few.
Many similarities can be found on albums by Lennon, Harrison and Starr and
I shall leave these for the reader to uncover for themselves. Remember I spent
more than 6 years reseaching my book and it entailed listening to hundreds of
songs over and over and disecting them for musical comparisons. There ended up
being far too many to include in this Blogg as My Story draws to a close.
" Magentalane; it feels so good ".
The album finishes with a short "Reprise" of their song
"Magentalane" and leaves the listener uplifted and joyous.
The album by far is one of their finest produced albums and compares to the
production quality found on The Beatles final album "Abbey Road".
Klaatu claim that "they produced the album all by their selves in a
newly built studio called "ESP Studios" located on farm 20 miles
outside of Toronto."
I personally suspect this to be
untrue and believe that it is possible that the album was partly recorded at
Air Studios on the island of Montserrat. I suspect that the
album was personally engineered and produced by the late Beatles producer Sir
George Martin whom co-owns the studio on the island with Sir Paul
McCartney. McCartney recorded sections of his 1981 "Tug of War"
album on Montserrat which covers the same time frame that the "Magentalane"
album was recorded.
In fact, only a few days ago I uncovered a rare photo of Sir George
Martin sitting in his studio chatting with none other than "Dee
Long"; a member of Klaatu. Unfortunately I have been unable
to identify when this pic was taken but I suspect that it was sometime in the
late 70s or early 80s; going by the hair styles and clothes worn.
Again, this prooves without a doubt that 1 of the Klaatu members had an
association with The Beatles record producer and whom may have been involved
with the recordings of their 1st, 2nd and 5th albums.
It seems that the longer I dig for clues to the "real identities"
of the Klaatu members the more connections and links to The Beatles and
the ex-Beatle members as Solo Artists I find.
This Blogg only contains maybe 50% of the information/evidence I
uncovered during my 6 years of research and even today in 2016 I am still
uncovering mountains of data which clearly suggests a link/connection
between both parties.
For my final word, I would like to ask the reader to make up their own
minds if there was any truth to the rumour " Could Klaatu be The
Beatles?" from all of the information presented in My Story.
Remember it was me whom lived through the experience and time and I have
simply tried to tell my Story as the events unfolded.
Its now May 2016 and I am a retired Single man surviving on
the Aged Pension and I live from day to day on very little. Health issues are a daily concern and I've
had to give up playing music due to my encroaching Parkinsons disease. At times
my right hand shakes so much that its impossible to play a guitar or keyboard
and even typing out this Blogg has been a real struggle. I have been desperate to Tell
my Story before my health fails me and it becomes an impossible task; and at last I have completed my mission.
Life is tough and I live " One day at a time" and
its a shame that I haven't made a Penny from my Story or recieved any Personal
contact for a number of years from
the remaining "living parties" involved in My Story.
I guess in the end all I can say is "thanks for reading
my Blogg and I pray that it inspires all music lovers to revisit the excellent,
unique recordings of Klaatu, regardless of who they may be, as I firmly believe that the Human race would
benefit from what they have to say.
